Küat Company Float
August 18, 2015 | Company
Once a year, we skip work for a day to “float” our amazing rivers, located here in the Ozarks, and get in some company bonding time.
At 6am, we packed in our cars to make the 2 hour trek towards the MO-AR line on a foggy and surprisingly cool Friday morning. After renting canoes and purchasing necessary provisions, too little sunscreen and enough refreshments, the Dawt Mill shuttle dropped us off at the launch site.
As we hopped on the water, the fog skirted the banks and set the tone for the relaxing day on the spring-fed Norfolk River. The water was moving quickly enough that paddling wasn’t much of a necessity; no, this was Ozarks-style “floating” at its finest.
Around noon, the temperature rose with the sun hanging high. There were frequent stops at gravel bars to rehydrate and carb-up on pizza from the night before. We tossed Frisbees, attempted to fish (water was moving way too fast), caught crawdads, jumped into cold –water springs, and most importantly – got to know each other a little better.
After 6 hours on the river, we were sunburned and smiling. The float was a success and a fantastic highlight to our 2015 year here at Küat Racks.
